This week we continue our series by talking about what the Bible teaches us about men and women and being men and women who follow God. Next week we will spend time teaching about how to treat the opposite sex and learn some important facts about them.

Here are some questions to discuss as a family:

1. What are some ways that you see the opposite gender trying to impress your gender?

2. Besides appearance, what are some things that can make someone attractive?

3. If you are not interested in dating, why does it matter if we talk about this?

4. How can you learn to live like the person God desires you to be?

Cooties: Week 1 Questions

Our new upcoming series starts this Sunday, Cooties, and we want to help keep some of the discussion questions posted so that what we talk about in class can also be discussed at home. This first week we get into some general information about dating. Why does this start to become of interest in middle school and how are we to respond as Christians to dating?

Here are some questions to discuss as a family:

1. Do you think you should be allowed to date in middle school? Why or why not?

2. What do you see as the purpose of dating or having a boyfriend or girlfriend?

3. Who do you see people change when they start having a new boyfriend/girlfriend? Is this good or bad?

4. Is dating in middle school beneficial? Why or why not?

5. What are important qualities to look for in a friend? How are this similar to what people should look for in a boyfriend/girlfriend? In a future spouse?

Castaway Bay Retreat

Our winter retreat to Castaway Bay is approaching quickly. Registration has now closed, but for those of you that are attending there are probably a few details that you will be looking for. There is a mailing that is being sent home to share with you some of the details, but I also decided to post some of those here.

We will be leaving on Saturday, January 14th. Please meet in the youth room at 9am. Also our theme for the weekend will be “Show & Tell”; we are asking each student to bring an item to use for a show and tell time during a group discussion. For parents, leaders, and students please spend some time reading through the appropriate letters and be sure to bring a medical form filled out on Saturday when we leave.

7th Grade Communion Retreat

In just over a week, we will be headed to Michigan Christian Youth Camp for a weekend retreat as we prepare our 7th graders for their first communion. This retreat is required for 7th graders wishing to participate in Communion. We have sent mailings home, but we also thought it’d be helpful to post it here in case you are looking to download a copy of the letter and medical form.

If for some reason you cannot make it on this retreat, but would like to discuss an alternate option for first communion, please contact RJ.

Dunes Trip Next Week

We’re less than a week away from our summer retreat, and this year is our largest retreat ever! We’ll be heading to Lake Ann Camp for a great time. Our theme this year is “Glow” and we’ll be talking about the simple idea that Jesus is the light of world and we shine that light to others. If you are coming on the trip, there are a couple of things that you might need to be ready. We sent these home, but sometimes it also helps to have them on the web.

With the craziness of summer and all the activities going on, it’s easy to forget about some of the important dates and times. A couple of those dates that are quickly approaching are as follows:

Confirmation Parent Meeting

There are two dates for this meeting. The first is Sunday, July 24th after the 11 o’clock service or Thursday, August 4th at 7pm.

Sand Dunes Registration

Registration for the Dunes Retreat closes on August 7th or when the trip is full.

Castaway Bay Retreat 2011 Video

We just returned from our Winter Retreat at Castaway Bay Resort in Sandusky, Ohio. We spent the weekend talking about what it means to live a 3D life. We spent time enjoying the water park, hanging out with friends, and some time of awesome musical worship. And of course we captured some of it on video so we could remember it all.

Here Comes the Fall

Summer is coming to a close and that not only means back to school, but there are a lot of events and things going on to be aware of in the Middle School Ministry. Here are a few of the things that you should no about:

Good Morning Gameshow

We are kicking of the fall at the Ground Floor with a morning jam packed full of great games and prizes. We’ll fit as many games as possible into an hour and play games from Fear Factor, Price is Right, Minute to Win It and more. Plus everybody loves the chance to win some great prizes. The fun starts at 9:15am.

Ground Floor

Every week during the fall, we meet on Sunday mornings at 9:15am. The Ground Floor is a great place to come and hang out on a Sunday morning. We have the usual pop and donuts and will spend some time playing fun games together and spending some time learning about the Bible.

2nd Floor

The 2nd Floor is a great place to get together on Wednesday nights. We meet in the youth room at 6:30pm. 2nd Floor is designed to be all about discussion. We have a focused topic and lesson plan and all the bible reading and study is done in your small groups. And if you’re looking for something to do before class, come as early as 3:30pm and hang out, play video games, play dodgeball in the gym, eat pizza, or just do some homework.

7th Grade Retreat

As a part of our confirmation program, every year we take our 7th Grade students on a retreat. We will be heading to Michigan Christian Youth Camp in Attica, MI for a weekend of fun and learning about what it means to take Communion. This years trip will be taking place from October 22-24th and the cost is $75.
