Throughout 6th and 7th grade students will work closely with parents through the “Family Based Confirmation Curriculum”. Parents and students will be asked to sit down on average of once a week and work through a 30-minute lesson together. Students and parents will complete a total of 20 lessons over the course of each year studying Lutheran Doctrine and Scriptural lessons.
The Purpose of Family Based Confirmation:
To provide parents with the opportunity to teach, pray, and grow with their student as they become a member of Faith Lutheran Church by studying the Bible and Luther’s Small Catechism. Did you know that Martin Luther’s original intention for the Small Catechism was for it to be taught by parents to their children? The Family Based Confirmation program helps make Luther’s intent a reality while parents embark on this spiritual journey with their kids.
The Benefits of Family Based Confirmation:
One of the most exciting aspects of the Family Based Confirmation program is that it actively involves parents in the spiritual lives of their children. Parents have the opportunity to learn alongside their child, answer questions about spiritual topics, and help develop spiritual habits in their children. Because of the “at home” aspect of this program it actually provides students with the opportunity to learn more about Lutheran doctrine and the Scriptures.

This weekend retreat will prepare students to receive communion at the First Communion Service following the retreat. Parents are welcome (and encouraged) to attend this retreat with their students as group leaders and chaperons. Our 2011 retreat will be held on October 21-23 at Michigan Christian Youth Camp in Attica, MI. The cost for this retreat is $75 per student. Parents must register their student in advance and complete the Medical Release form for their student to go. Those forms can be downloaded below.
Final Thoughts and Downloads:
We’ve only brushed the surface of the 6th & 7th Grade Confirmation programs. We encourage parents to attend our yearly confirmation meetings to get all the information, see new changes to the program, and pre-register their student. You can also download the information packets, student confirmation registration form, retreat registrations, and Medical release forms to help guide you through the sign-up process. If we can recommend one thing as you consider this process it’s to talk with us if you have questions, fears, concerns, struggles, etc. We are willing to work with you as best as we can if we know what’s going on.
